Connecting to Exodus<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>In <strong>Exodus<\/strong>, Israel builds the tabernacle, and God&#8217;s presence fills it (<em>Ex. 40:34-38<\/em>).<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>But a problem remains: <em>How can sinful people approach a holy God?<\/em><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Leviticus<\/strong> provides the answer: <em>Through atonement, God makes a way for His people to remain in His presence.<\/em><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:separator -->\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<!-- \/wp:separator -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>II. The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16)<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Key Features:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true,\"start\":1} -->\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>The High Priest&#8217;s Role<\/strong><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Only the high priest (Aaron) can enter the Holy of Holies.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>He must offer a sacrifice for his own sins first (<em>Lev. 16:6<\/em>).<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>The Two Goats: Atonement and Removal of Sin<\/strong><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Goat #1: The Sin Offering<\/strong> (<em>Lev. 16:15-19<\/em>)<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Blood sprinkled on the mercy seat = atonement for sin.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Goat #2: The Scapegoat<\/strong> (<em>Lev. 16:20-22<\/em>)<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>The priest lays hands on it, confessing Israel\u2019s sins.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>The goat is sent into the wilderness = sin is removed.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ol>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Why Two Goats?<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>One represents <strong>payment for sin<\/strong> (<em>propitiation<\/em>).<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>The other represents <strong>the removal of sin<\/strong> (<em>expiation<\/em>).<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:separator -->\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<!-- \/wp:separator -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>III. How Leviticus 16 Points to Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true,\"start\":1} -->\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Jesus is the Greater High Priest<\/strong> (<em>Hebrews 9:11-12, 7:26-27<\/em>)<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Unlike Aaron, Jesus does not need to offer sacrifices for Himself.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>He enters the true Holy of Holies\u2014heaven itself\u2014to make atonement.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Jesus is the Ultimate Sacrifice<\/strong> (<em>Hebrews 10:1-4, John 1:29<\/em>)<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>His blood <strong>removes sin permanently<\/strong>, unlike the temporary animal sacrifices.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Jesus is our Scapegoat<\/strong> (<em>Hebrews 13:12<\/em>)<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>He bears our sins and is &#8220;sent outside the camp&#8221; to suffer for us.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ol>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:separator -->\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<!-- \/wp:separator -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>IV. The <strong>Day of Atonement<\/strong> provided a temporary solution, but Jesus fulfills it <strong>once and for all<\/strong>.
